GRAND ISLAND, Neb. – Grand Island is set to host its 15th annual Nebraska State Fair next month. State Fair Executive Director Jamie Parr addressed the Grand Island City Council on Tuesday night, encouraging community participation and volunteerism.

The fair will take place from Friday, Aug. 23 through Monday, Sept. 2. In her presentation, Parr highlighted the importance of community involvement, urging residents to not only attend but also volunteer if possible.

Parr revealed that over 192 volunteer positions are available each day of the fair. This year, the event will feature new additions with the introduction of Grand Island Celebration Days, including ‘Welcome to Grand Island Day’ on Sunday, Aug. 25, and ‘Come Back to Grand Island Day’ on Sunday, Sept. 1.

On these special days, the city will present flags, banners, and branding to celebrate and promote Grand Island. Parr encouraged local residents to engage with visitors and showcase the community spirit.

Councilman Mitch Nickerson expressed strong support for this partnership, emphasizing the benefits of highlighting what Grand Island has to offer.

“I think anytime we have the opportunity to showcase what Grand Island is, what we have to offer to thousands of people coming to the fair, is a great thing for all of us,” Nickerson stated. “Grand Island is a great place to live, work, and play. We are also the city of kindness and we don’t need to be ashamed about that at all. I think it’s important to toot our own horn sometimes and this will give us the opportunity to do that.”

In addition to these announcements, the City Council approved a contract with the Nebraska State Fair to provide emergency response services throughout the duration of the fair, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees.
